The explanation is that "the board [is] upset that the automaker was changing too slowly, and Henderson [is] frustrated with second-guessing".
In other words: the Obama lackeys on the board are standing over Henderson's shoulder watching every move he makes, yelling "faster!, faster!", to the point where Henderson realized the futility of his mission.
GM has sold off Hummer. They're liquidating Saturn after the sale to Penske fell through. And they're shopping Saab around, and will be liquidating it if there's no deal by the end of the year. Next year, they'll be introducing the all-electric Chevy Volt. And the people on the board think GM is changing too slowly?
You have to give him credit for hanging in there this long!
